I’m naming only the region because the country, the work, and the people connected to this story are sensitive.
I felt a strong impression to talk to someone wearing a red hijab. During one street outreach time, I went up to about five different people. None of them spoke English. I felt discouraged and honestly a bit unsure.
The next day, I went out again. I was not really feeling motivated. Then I saw a young woman sitting on a bench with her baby. She was wearing a red hijab.
I asked whether she spoke English. We ended up talking for a couple of hours about her life and her faith. She shared that she was a refugee from Somalia. A real friendship began to form, and she invited my teammate and me to her home.
I met with her several more times. We read Scripture together. I explained the Gospel. She began calling us her sisters and her baby’s “aunties.” Love and consistency opened a door for deeper conversations.
We did not see a direct salvation. I will not turn her into a cleaner ending than the one we were given. We saw a seed planted, an honest friendship, and room for God to keep working.
